The Fourth of July is kind of a big deal in Philadelphia. We are, after all, the birthplace of the nation, so you can expect our celebrations to be some of the biggest and best that the U.S. has to offer. And Philadelphia has it all— from music to food to history. This celebration is much more than just the Fourth, too, so get ready for a whole week of patriotic fun with these suggestions!
If fireworks are your thing…
Check out Wawa Welcome America! Starting at 10 p.m., there will be a fantastic fireworks show over the Philadelphia Museum of Art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Even better? Get there early for the free concert at 5 p.m., featuring artists like Leon Bridges and a tribute to Gamble and Huff!
If you’re expecting a full-fledged celebration…
Philly’s got you covered. An Independence Day Parade, starting at Fifth and Chestnut, will march past Center City’s historic sites. This promises to be some old-fashioned fun in the summer weather, and, of course, it’s free.
If you’re down with the National Constitution Center …
In preparation for Independence Day, opt to explore the 160,000-square-foot constitution center and check out the most important documents in our history. On June 30, the constitution center will be open to its visitors for free!
If you’re a hoagie lover…
Head over to Independence Mall on June 30, where Free Hoagie Day returns for its 24th year. Hosted by Wawa, the event salutes the military, firefighters, and police officers during a march performed by military heroes and re-enactors. More than five tons of Wawa hoagies will be distributed to the masses for free, so be sure to snag one for yourself!
If Penn’s Landing is your second home…
Join the Philadelphia Orchestra on July 1 for a free performance. After the show, be sure to stick around for the fireworks displays along the Delaware River Waterfront.
If 4th of July is your time to dance…
The Historic Philadelphia Block Party is your place to be. Festivities will begin on July 3rd on 5th and 6th streets, between Market and Chestnut streets. Head straight to Independence Hall for live entertainment, food vendors, games and activities!
If you’re looking to score a cool spot for fireworks…
Battleship New Jersey has got you covered. Starting at 6p.m., catch a live performance by a Beatles tribute band. Check out some kid-friendly activities like face-painting, and be sure to snag some food and drinks at the concession stand. Finish off the night by enjoying the views of the fireworks over the Delaware River from aboard the ship.
