Defining Truth in Modern Politics
Monday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. | National Constitution Center | 0-$10 for Open Arts members

The rise of “fake news,” the growth of political polarization, and the fracturing of the media have all contributed to a troubling phenomenon: increasingly, citizens are asserting their own “truths.” Experts come together to discuss.

River Alive Nights: May The Fourth Be With You
Thursday, May 4 at 6 p.m. | Independence Seaport Museum | $16 for Open Arts members

A long time ago, but in waters not so far away, sword fighting and celestial navigation helped sailors travel around our globe. Learn basic fight choreography, how to navigate this galaxy’s waterways using our night sky and make your own light-up sword on a 3D printer. Dissect sea stars in our Citizen Science Lab. Meet live animals from The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University and see how extreme environments have led to some amazing adaptations and more. Includes 1 drink ticket.

Eastern State Penitentiary Opening Reception
Friday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. | Eastern State Penitentiary | Free for Open Arts members

Be among the first to walk the corridor of the long-abandoned Hospital Block, and to view three new artist installations. Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public; no reservations required.

Bombay Rickey
Saturday, May 6 at 8 p.m. | The Painted Pride Art Center | $20 for Open Arts members

Bombay Rickey is a five-piece band with a unique sound evocative of 1960s movie soundscapes. The group plays both covers and originals that borrow from the worlds of surf rock, cumbia, spaghetti-Western, and Bollywood, balanced out with soaring operatic vocals.
