7 Exciting Ways to Celebrate Women’s History Month in Philadelphia

March is Women’s History Month, and Philadelphia offers plenty of exciting opportunities for college students and recent graduates to learn, shop, and snack in celebration! Keep reading for some of the ways you can celebrate Women’s History Month right here in Philly.

1. Culturefest: Celebrate Women Artists and Creatives at Penn Museum 

What: This all-day festival at the Penn Museum celebrates the art and power of women artists all over the world! Enjoy events throughout the day, such as performances by the Women’s Sekere Ensemble, a live pottery wheel throwing demonstration, various workshops, a performance by the Sattriya Dance Company, Drag Queen Storytime, lectures, showcases, and more! 2. Sue Williamson & Lebohang Kganye: Tell Me What You Remember exhibit at The Barnes Foundation

What: Bringing together the work of two of South Africa’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, this exhibition offers a cross-generational dialogue on history, memory, and the power of self-narration in the context of apartheid and its legacies. Curated by Emma Lewis, curator at Turner Contemporary, this exhibition is the most significant presentation of each artist in the US to date, and the first time their work has been presented in dialogue.

3. Live More Marketplace 

What: Located at the iconic Cherry Street Pier, this two-day market features dozens of women-owned businesses. Spend your weekend shopping for crafts, art, wellness products, and other unique items! The best part? They’re all created by women entrepreneurs! 

When: March 11 and 12 from 12 p.m.-7 p.m.

Where: 121 North Christopher Columbus Boulevard

4. Wawa Community Day Celebrating Women’s History Month at the National Constitution Center 

What: Enjoy FREE admission to the National Constitution Center, courtesy of Wawa, and gain access to events such as The Four Harriets of History, Suffragist Story Corner, an exhibit tour about the 19th amendment, and more! Wawa Innovation Network volunteers will be serving hot drinks, pretzels, and pastries from 1-4pm. Visit this page to view the full lineup!

5. Women’s Way Wednesdays at Stratus Rooftop Lounge at Kimpton Hotel Monaco

What: This weekly pop-up charity event celebrates women-owned culinary businesses in Philadelphia! For the month of March, enjoy light bites, a complimentary beverage, and live music every Wednesday. 100% of ticketing proceeds will go to Women’s Way—a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of women, girls, and gender and racial equality. 

When: March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29

6. Visit the Betsy Ross House 

What: During Women’s History Month, head over to the Betsy Ross House to hear stories about women throughout history. This FREE program celebrates the lives of Hannah Lithgow, Margaret Woodby, Susannah Cook, and Mary Crathorne. 

When: 11 a.m-3 p.m. March 4, 11, 18 and 29

7. International Women’s Day Comedy Show

What: This BYOB comedy show will feature an hour and a half of female comedians from the Philadelphia area. Grab a few friends and prepare to laugh the night away!

When: March 8 at 7 p.m
