Campus Philly has been informed by the Commerce Department that our contract will not be renewed and that we are slated to receive no funding from the City in the FY21 budget.
Though Campus Philly brings in more than 60% of its revenue from other sources – colleges and universities, employers, sponsors and the corporate sector – the City funding is foundational for us. Without it, we won’t have the staff to produce the programs that those other partners invest in. Without baseline funding from the City, Campus Philly would shut its doors.
Without Campus Philly, internships that support students will go away; the local restaurants, museums, concert venues and shops will see a decline in revenue and attendance; and most notably, Philadelphia will experience a resurgence in brain drain, as students who would have been hired by Philadelphia companies will leave the region, moving back to their hometowns, or to other cities.
Philadelphia is experiencing a crisis like no other right now, but without Campus Philly, what will recovery look like?
